BHARUCH: Revenue from industrial estates such as Ankleshwar, Panoli, Jhagadia and Bharuch is on the rise even though no new unit has been added from the last four years, additional commissioner for customs and central excise Vijay Rishi revealed on Friday.
Rishi was here to attend a seminar kept by Ankleshwar Customs and Central Excise office on service tax.
"A total of 119 services are under service tax for which earlier we (excise department) were taking harsh actions like search raids, but now the scenario has changed and we have started doing awareness programmes and seminars with practitioners, professionals as well as industrialists and other tax payers to let them know about what tax they have to pay and how to pay. After such programs we are really getting good response from the tax-payers."
Due to environmental issues, not a single NOC has been issued to establish a new unit in Ankleshwar and Panoli industrial estates in the last four years. "Revenue is increasing from this zone, but the expected growth is not there due to the issues regarding the state and central government for pollution," Rishi said.
Superintendent Arvind Agrawal described the latest developments regarding service tax. Deputy commissioner R S Rao appealed to people to pay the tax on proper time.
